WHO CAN VOLUNTEER?
The volunteers are encouraged to be creative, flexible, and patient, open minded and independent, interested to work with children and youth groups, able to work with limited resources and less supervision. The volunteers are also very welcome to create new ideas and methods to assist in running projects in our communities. AVC welcomes local and international volunteers from different backgrounds, from health care to education, economics to community and social work.
WHY VOLUNTEER WITH AVC?
AVC Volunteer Center gives you opportunities to become involved with different community projects, meet with people from other cultures, learn local languages, and acquire various skills. It will give you satisfaction of knowing you are doing good and are involved within the local communities.
AVC volunteers work to fight poverty in Tanzania and change the lives of children and young people. The impact of your work will be far reaching; leaving a positive legacy that remains long after you have returned home. All of this is accomplished by local and international volunteers who come together across cultures to work on community projects.
The volunteers will have free time on the weekends or at the end of work placements to enjoy the landscape, nature, culture and historical attractions of the regions in Tanzania. Some of the closest attractions you can see are the historical town of Bagamoyo, Zanzibar, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mikumi National Park and much more.
AVC Volunteer Center is dedicated to making their volunteers as comfortable as possible and ensures that they have the most memorable time possible in Tanzania. In most cases, we ask that you cover the cost of your accommodation and food while visiting a project or organisation.
This is worked out at approximately USD $15 per day and in most cases covers 3 meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner and homestay accommodation. Volunteers staying for more than 2 months are entitled to a reduction in the daily rate. By participating in a homestay, volunteers have the opportunity to understand the local culture and environment better than staying in their own rented house or hotel. However, if volunteers would like to be placed in a hotel or rent a private home, this can be arranged.
Airport pick-up is available from Dar es Salaam International airport. Volunteers can be picked up by local staff members any time of day or night, but be sure to tell the staff when your flight lands. It is possible to travel to Tanzania in any period of the year, so do not let weather stop you from volunteering or travelling. Please remember that nearly all of the money you pay for your placement goes directly towards running our charitable projects in Tanzania.
Our main objective is to carry out activities to educate the communities on relevant social and economic issues ,such as advocating for positive change and awareness raising, developing new approaches to poverty reduction, health , equal education, environmental conservation, capacity building and networking programs which are youth centered, gender sensitive environmental friendly and readily accessible to vulnerable youth through volunteering.
